Ninja Woodfire Outdoor Oven

The Ninja Woodfire Outdoor Oven was Ninja's 2nd outdoor appliance and the 1st appliance to ever reach 700F ambient temperature. The key features of this product was 700F temperatures for quick pizzas and cooks beyond an indoor wall oven. It also enabled the ability to use Ninja's electric Woodfire system to add smoke flavor to any food.

I was the lead design engineer and saw the project from initial conception to mass production. My key responsibilities of this project included:

New Product Development

  • Constant communication with the team in China through prototype development and mass production quality issues

  • Reviewed and provided feedback of all material selection, DFMs, EBOMs and CAD assemblies

  • Designed key parts and accessories for the overall product in CAD, and communicated all design changes to the team in China

  • Prototyped various touchpoints for the oven to show cross functional team

  • Presented weekly project updates and builds to the executive team and president

  • Worked with cross functional teams to make sure technical items are represented in user guides and to retailers 

  • Owned CAD and prototypes of each upsell accessory (pizza peel, protective cover, cast iron pan)

  • Brainstormed and implemented $20 in FOB cost savings through optimizing manufacturing, assembly, and material selection. Owned cost walks presented to the business in weekly updates. 

  • Followed VAVE items through ECNs after the product went through mass production

Research & Development

  • Built the 1st prototype to demonstrate proof of concept to the business.

  • Created DOE and conducted thermal testing that dictated the temperature setpoints of each pizza function 

  • Validated material selections for each cooking accessory through KPI testing and weekly communication with coating and supply chain to identify what was manufacturable

  • Owner of the UI and Control flow document that dictated software logic 

  • Worked with Food Science to debug any failed KPIs through extensive testing
